Protocols

The Office of Animal Welfare will be implementing an electronic system for IACUC protocol submission and review soon. Until then, we will continue to use electronic Word documents until further notice.

Please review the information on this page and submit all documents to IACUC@mail.wvu.edu.

Submission of Protocols

IACUC protocols must be submitted to iacuc@mail.wvu.edu in MS Word Doc format, with the main form and appendices submitted separately, on or before the 15th of each month if the protocol (e.g. all category E) will be reviewed via full committee review, which generally occurs on the first Wednesday of each month. If a protocol is received which is categorized as either B, C or D, it may be reviewed via the designated member review process which is a rolling review process and does not occur at an IACUC meeting. However, ANY IACUC member can request a protocol be reviewed at an IACUC meeting for any reason.

Submission of Amendments

IACUC protocol amendments must be submitted to iacuc@mail.wvu.edu. A brief summary which should include a description of the amendment and a rationale/justification for the requested changes should be submitted as a memo. All changes should be incorporated into the currently approved IACUC protocol Word Documents and highlighted. Be sure to remove all highlighting from any previously submitted document. If you do not know what Word Docs constitute your currently approved IACUC protocol, please contact us. All amendment submissions only need to include those forms which were changed (i.e., those which have highlighted sections) and a brief summary which must include a description of the amendment and a rationale/justification for the requested changes. Due dates for protocol amendments are the same as described above for protocols.

Please note that all submissions will go through an administrative Pre-review and may receive a protocol-grant congruency evaluation.
