Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) Administrator

Under the supervision of the Office of Animal Welfare and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Courtney assists in monitoring animal research, teaching and training activities, and serves as a training and educational resource to animal researchers, ensuring they are in accordance with IACUC approved protocols and federal regulations. She conducts routine assessment of animal use procedures and records, provides guidance to researchers about best practices and current requirements, investigates specific animal welfare-related concerns (as assigned), participates in IACUC facilities inspections and performs follow-ups as requested by the IACUC. She provides PAM summary reports to the committee, as required, and reports directly to the Director of the Office of Animal Welfare.

Courtney received her BA in Psychology from West Virginia University and her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Fairmont State College. She worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in small animal practice for 8 years before coming to WVU. She was an RVT in the Office of Laboratory Animal Resources at WVU for 7 years prior to joining the Office of Animal Welfare in 2019.
